TRIESTE
The golden period in Trieste was the 19th century under Hapsburg government, from Maria Theresa to Franz Josef, as demonstrated by the buildings of the maritime companies and city institutions. This is reiterated in the historic cafés that retain the air of the Middle European city. Staying on the subject of nostalgia, a first recommendation is a visit to the Colle di San Giusto, from the top of which you can view the city’s geography. Visits then come alive after crossing the threshold of the Museo Revoltella, arranged in the residence of one of the most prominent businessmen of the times and an enthusiastic collector of modern art. The next stop is the Castello di Miramare, with its fascinating, beautiful and sumptuous interiors and the adventurous episode involving its owner, the Archduke Maximilian of Austria. Completing the whole are two destinations that combine culture and fine food: Grado, for a pleasant day by the sea, and Cormons, to venture into the extraordinary world of Friuli wine.Copyright © 2010 Touring Editore Srl Milano www.touringclub.com
