VENICE
Venice, a city for all seasons
Venice is not the place if you tend to harbour regret. There really are too many must-see attractions and you would ruin your time there. One good compromise is to concentrate on one of the city districts (out of the six, known as sestieri) and make a promise to return again and again to complete the job. Of course, if you choose the San Marco district you will have to tackle the square, the Basilica, Palazzo Ducale and certain mind-blowing museums. You will have to be even more selective and perhaps adopt criteria that will keep the outing enjoyable. One good recommendation is to visit the old cafés in Piazza S. Marco and, to be topical, the Torre dell’Orologio, reopened after years of restoration. Expand your horizons and visit the Isola di Torcello, which involves a brief but delightful boat trip across the lagoon. Two suggestions for the mainland: the Riviera del Brenta villas – a memorable experience – and a trip to Treviso, a friendly city, and a possible detour towards the home of Prosecco wine.
